Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Join My servants. 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
