Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 half the night, or a little less 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
