In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
