Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
