In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
