In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
