In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
