Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
