The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he beheld, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 scorching the flesh; 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
