The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
