The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
