The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
