The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
