The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
