The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
