The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise, and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
