The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
