By the moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 a warning to humankind, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 About the criminals, 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 we fed not the needy, 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
