Nay! By the moon 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 about the guilty ones: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
