NAY, but consider the moon! 32 Consider the night when it departs, 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 A warning unto humankind 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
