Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 And the night when it departs, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 except the people of the right hand 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 about the guilty ones: 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 Fleeing from a lion! 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 No indeed; the truth is that they have no fear of the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 So whosoever will (let him read it), and receive admonition (from it)! 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
