By the moon, 32 By the receding night 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 it is a warning to man, 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 until death approached us". 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 But they will not benefit from it unless Allah Himself so wills. He is worthy to be feared; and He is worthy to forgive (those that fear Him). 56
