By the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 About the criminals, 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
