The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight. 2 Surely We showed him the Right Path, regardless of whether he chooses to be thankful or unthankful (to his Lord). 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 Verily, the Abrar (pious, who fear Allah and avoid evil), shall drink a cup (of wine) mixed with water from a spring in Paradise called Kafur. 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 And feed the needy for the love of Him, and the orphans and the captives, 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 and their reward for being patient will be a Garden and silk [clothing]. 12 Reclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun's (excessive heat) nor (the moon's) excessive cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 And they will be waited upon with vessels of silver and goblets that will [seem to] be crystal 15 goblets of silver that they have precisely measured. 16 And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 they will wear green garments of fine silk and rich brocade. They will be adorned with silver bracelets. And their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
