The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 For the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire. 4 The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. 7 and who give food - however great be their own want of it - unto the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 Saying: we feed you only for the sake of Allah; we desire not from you any recompense or thanks. 9 behold, we stand in awe of our Sustainer's judgment on a distressful, fateful Day!" 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 and will reward them for their steadfastness with Paradise and robes of silk. 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, 17 [derived from] a source [to be found] therein, whose name is "Seek Thy Way". 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." 22
