The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. 2 Surely We showed him the Right Path, regardless of whether he chooses to be thankful or unthankful (to his Lord). 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly. 6 They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading. 7 who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So Allah will save them from the evil of that Day and has secured for them radiance and joyfulness, 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 Reclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun's (excessive heat) nor (the moon's) excessive cold. 13 The shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down. 14 They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 from a flowing spring called Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be attended by youths who will not age -- when you see them you will think them to be like sprinkled pearls -- 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
