The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
