The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And dense gardens. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
