The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
