The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the great news - 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. (3) وقف جائز مع تساوي أولوية الوقف والوصل، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال النصف للنصف. (4) وقف جائز مع الوصل أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلث. When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
