The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
