The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 , A fitting reward. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
