The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 About which they have been differing? 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
