He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
