He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
