He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
