He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
