He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive and palm trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
