He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honourable pages. 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
