He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 fruits, and grass. 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
