He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
