He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 So you are after him! 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
