He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And hath fear, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and date palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
