He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
