He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
