The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
