He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
