The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 And when the earth is spread out 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 he shall call for destruction 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And the moon when at the full, 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
