The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] - 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 This is a fact. Their Lord is Well-Aware of (all that they do). 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And the moon when at the full, 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 And Allah knows best what they hide, 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
