The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By heaven and the night-star! 1 and what could make you know what it is that comes in the night? 2 (It is a nightly radiant star). 3 No human soul but hath a guardian over it. 4 LET MAN, then, observe out of what he has been created: 5 He is created from a water gushing forth. 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 and [man] will have neither strength nor helper! 10 By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again. 11 by the earth cracking open with new growth. 12 Most surely it is a decisive word, 13 And it is not a frivolity. 14 They are hatching up a plot, 15 and I too am devising a guile. 16 So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. 17
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
