The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sky, and by the nightly comer! 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 It is the star that pierces through [life's] darkness: 3 There is no soul which is not guarded (by the two angels who record all of its deeds). 4 So let man consider of what he is created: 5 He is created from a water dripping, 6 that issues from between the loins and the ribs. 7 He certainly has the power to bring him back to life. 8 On a Day whereon secrets shall be out. 9 (Man) will have no power, and no helper. 10 By the heaven with its recurring cycle of rain, 11 And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) 12 Verily, it is a discourse distinguishing. 13 and is not to be taken lightly. 14 Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) 15 and so am I: 16 So grant the unbelievers a respite: let them alone for a while. 17
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
